On Saturday 14th May, 9 adventurers from Year 8 and Kinder set off to the Capernwray Dive Centre in northern Lancashire to get their open water PADI qualifications for scuba diving. After the early start, we got there for around 9.30 which gave lots of time to sort out the complicated equipment and do thorough kit checks and skill reminders before the first dive. Although it was a glorious day, the water was still at 12 degrees, which did make it rather chilly. This was too much of a shock for a few, who ended the first dive early. After a hot chocolate and a bite to eat, those who could muster the courage attempted the second dive of the day. We went back to our hotel in Carnforth, filled in the log books and enjoyed the hot food that awaited us.
A quick turnaround in the morning meant that we had maximum dive time again. Conditions were very similar to the previous day, so it was still a little chilly in the water. After two long dives, six of the group had achieved enough to get their qualifications, so well done Sam B, Thomas T, George W, Will U, Grace T and Aisha R. Thank you to Louise and her Diveworld team for such an amazing weekend and for all your help and support with our young divers!
