The weather was set fair and 15 teams set out onto Bakewell Golf Club for the annual Parent and Child Golf Day. For the boarders it meant finding a worthy teacher to adopt them for the day. We played greensomes format, which added to the pressure. For those who don’t know the golfing lingo, both players tee off…let me pause there as I set the scene. On the first tee there was 32 spectators as the early groups took to the tee. Mr Barton, who came second overall for the second year running, was mightily relieved when his drive was hit long down the centre of the fairway. Once all players had hit their drives the groups chose the best drive and played alternate shots to the hole. The rule being each group must take at least 3 drives from each player over the 9 holes.
As we walked round the course admiring the view it was wonderful to see the children and parents having such a wonderful time with lots of cheering, laughing and distant echos of ‘FOUUURR’. Well done to all of the players and in particular the Robertson boys and Will D who had never played a round of golf before.
After the golf the Clubhouse was full of laughter and stories from the day. We had a running leaderboard as teams finished and handed in their score cards. Congratulations to Arthur L who received a new Titleist golf cap for his magical shot on the 9th to within a metre of the pin.
