Pre-Prep French Day
Reception had a great morning
making French flags. They put their cutting skills to the test by having to
carefully cut around the outline of the French flag and joining it all together
again, in the correct order. Madame Hughes played ‘French whispers’ which
proved highly entertaining and we all enjoyed a lovely snack of pain au chocolat,
remembering to say ‘merci’ and asking for either water or milk in French too!
Year 1 we welcomed the smell of freshly baked pain au chocolates, the sound of
an accordion playing and the beautiful sight of the Eiffel Tower! The children
came to school wearing red, white and blue and the odd moustache here and
there! We talked about the sweet flavours of French treats and designed our own
pastries, read information about the Eiffel Tower and completed a key facts
quiz. We have created our own representations of the Eiffel Tower using watercolour paints and paper and the day concluded with a bake off challenge to bake
our own pain au chocolats!
children in Year 2 worked with a partner and an atlas, exploring some of the physical
features of France. Their challenge was to find all of the countries that
bordered France as well as locating and naming seas and oceans that lap the
French shores. We discussed the structure of Paris and how the 20
arrondissements were set out like a snail or even an escargot! The children
watched clips about the beautiful, and world famous buildings and landmarks in
these areas. They then practised their numbers to 20 in French, and had great
fun playing French bingo! The afternoon was rounded off with a funny story “C'est a moi, ca!” which the children really enjoyed.
