The Reception class is a little bit like a beehive. There is a constant buzz and all are busy from the minute they enter in the morning to the final good bye in the afternoon.
A choice of early morning activities are laid out around the class so each child can immediately select what they would like to do, gaining independence and developing their own creativity.
After our Good Morning song and registration lessons start at 9 am. The focus in the morning is usually based around Literacy and Maths although like everything in Reception it is very cross curricular. Art, craft and topic based activities generally happen in the afternoon. Each lesson is geared around the children and encourages them to reach both their full potential and the early learning goals.
We are privileged to have amazing facilities, which we have access to during the week. The children look forward to specialised lessons in pottery, games, music, dance, French, ICT and swimming each week. This allows them to become familiar with the Prep school and their teaching staff, not to mention developing skills in each of these areas.
Reception is a social place where long term friendships are often forged. The children are very much encouraged to look after each other, take turns and play fairly throughout the day. As a result the class is a happy and thriving environment where the children enjoy learning and feel safe.
