We had the most amazing adventure at the Heights of Abraham courtesy of the Pugh family. Having managed to squeeze the minibus under a very low bridge we were escorted into the cable cars.
This proved to be a very exciting journey to the top of Matlock Bath with breath taking views down the Derwent Valley. The children could not believe how high we were!
On arrival at the top we got our torches out and headed off down the mines. Sarah gave us an interesting tour of Rutland Cavern and we met John, a 17th Century miner who explained what it was like to work deep down in the mines digging for lead. The children were mesmerised by the sparkling crystals that lay in the rock formation and one or two have decided they are going to be diamond miners when they grow up!
Our next stop was to let off steam in the adventure playground which proved a great hit, before heading up the steep hill to pan for gold, look at enormous fossils and dig for semi-precious stones. A huge thank you must go to Mrs Pugh for kindly showing us around and allowing us to visit – a must if you are nearby.
