Religious Studies (R.S.) is a well-established subject area in S. Anselm’s, reflecting the school’s Christian ethos and foundation.
The teaching of R.S. aims to contribute to the development of the child’s values and approach to life in school and beyond. Children are made aware via assemblies, church visits and R.S. lessons of the main festivals in the Christian calendar. For children in the Prep School, contemporary moral and ethical values are examined in relation to Biblical texts, and the lives of great Christians are explored.
In addition, mindful of our multicultural world, the R.S. curriculum throughout the school incorporates study and appreciation of other world faiths.
R.S. is taught by form teachers up to Y5. A more specialist approach is adopted in Years 6, 7 and 8. In addition to the Common Entrance and Scholarship syllabus content, Y8 embark upon R.S. coursework which varies in its content from year to year and is worth up to 30% of the final C.E. mark.
