Anselm’s Under 11 Netball Tournament, Saturday 20th March
Under 11B Squad: Alice S, Sky U, Ella R, Arabella S, Imogine H, Ella T, Francesca B, Isobel H, Mariella G, Erin S, Keeley R.
U11B Results: Initial rounds – v Packwood A, won 4 – 1; v St Peter & St Paul A, lost 0 – 3; v Great Longstone B, won 1 – 0; v Ashdell B, won 4 – 1; v Sheffield High, lost 0 – 10.
U11B were 3rd in their group and 5th place overall in the tournament.
Under 11A Squad: Arabella H, Annie GP, Beth D, Jessica RS, Arabella A, Ella N, Georgy H, Oonagh S.
U11A Results: Initial rounds – V Packwood B, won 13 – 0; v St Peter & St Paul B, won 6 – 0; V Great Longstone A, won 4 – 1; v Ashdell A, won 11 – 0; v Terra Nova, won 14 – 1.
U11A were 1st overall in their group. Semi-final: v St Peter & St Paul A, won 9 – 2. Final v Sheffield High, won 6 – 4. U11A were 1st overall.

The weather was not favourable for our tournament this year, with continual drizzle ensuring everyone was damp to the core. However, it did not stop the x12 teams who had entered from enjoying playing in it, or the huge amount of supporters attending. The atmosphere was super, thank you to all the girls who played so impressively; the groundsmen for helping to prepare the courts; Julie and her fabulous team for the ongoing refreshments throughout the afternoon; the staff from other schools who entered and brought their teams; our marvellous 5th years and gappies Clare and Holly for helping the tournament to run so smoothly; Mrs Mason for all her help with admin; and Mrs Whawell and Mrs Northcott for umpiring the finals – we could not have done it without you all!
The under 11Bs had a super afternoon and I was particularly pleased with their performance. They all played brilliantly and did very well in their group, often playing against other schools’ A teams. They were 3rd in their group and 5th overall, narrowly missing out on the semi-finals, well done girls! What a difference from the Foremarke Tournament they played in at the start of term and real indicator of how far you have come in this season!
This was definitely the day for the A squad. In a couple of tournaments this team have been unlucky, with the draw going against them, or order of play, or even goal difference; not so this time! They made light work of the initial rounds, as the results above show. Our shooters Annie and Heapie were on fire, defence Oonagh and Georgy were solid, timing their interceptions well and distributing their passes effectively. Mid court players Ella N, Arabella A and Beth D, were super at bringing the ball down the court; whilst centre Jess RS worked tirelessly, making super interceptions and feeding some blistering passes into the D.
As winners of the group we faced St. Peter & St Paul A team, runners up of the other group in the semi-finals. Our girls were equally matched by them for the first couple of minutes, but then pulled ahead, building on their lead in the second half to win comfortably 9 – 2.
We faced Sheffield High in the finals, a team we had narrowly beaten by one goal in a friendly game two weeks earlier. A few minutes into the first half 2- 1 up, our awesome GD Georgy went over on her ankle, fracturing it, so had to be helped from the court. After quick team swap, the girls dug in, playing out of their skins, with players in positions that were not their usual. We had kept the one goal lead at half time, then pulled ahead, finishing 6 – 4 ahead at the end of the game, in this nail biting final.
We had done it – the third under 11 squad in a row to win our own tournament! Well played all and thanks very much to our marvellous parental supporters for all you cheering on this afternoon and in all the other matches this season. Well done to all the under 11s, I have really enjoyed coaching you all this term and watching your play develop, there is a lot of talent amongst you, keep working hard!

This was our final match of a very successful season, which saw us away, outside and unfortunately battling against the elements - horrendous rain. We were not used to these conditions yet gave it our best shot. In the first quarter, Ranby gained much of the possession but we defended well and kept the score down to only 3 goals. The second quarter was a different story however, we were not catching the ball or positioning ourselves correctly i.e. finding space or getting in front of Ranby players and they intercepted many of our passes. They successfully fed the ball to their shooters, who managed to score 9 goals - one a minute! We only allowed them a measly 3 goals in the third quarter, yet we were still to score. The pace really picked up in the last quarter and we began to look like the winning team we had been throughout the season. We defended very well, particularly Laura M and Livi BD and were giving ourselves space to make those all important catches. Unfortunately our score did not reflect our standard of play as we only managed to clock up 2 goals but we did at least, recover some integrity!

It has been a great terms Netball and we have seen some lovely play with all girls involved - what more could anyone ask for?!

This was a super event for the under8/9 girls, enabling them to play three matches in an afternoon, rather than one. The afternoon was lovely and sunny and everyone enjoyed participating in it. Our strongest opponents of the afternoon were Westbourne. Despite drawing 2 – 2 with them at half time we were not able to maintain it in the second half, losing 4 – 6.
In the second game we faced hosts Barlborough Hall and were 1 – 0 up at half time. Tara O’R and Amber H worked well together to ensure we finished the game 3 – 0 up. In the third game Evie D shot impressively, to put us up 5 – 0 at half time. After a lot of changes to position , this proved to be the end result too. Our three defenders Livi, Lexi and Laura M had a good afternoon, playing particularly well in the last two games. Immy N and Lily H passed the ball superbly into the D; whilst other mid court players, Laura D, Mimi C and Frederique assisted with the flow of the ball down the court. Thanks to all the parents who came along to support the girls, well played everyone!
On Friday morning, the Regional winners S. Anselm’s U13A team were on their way to the National IAPS Netball Finals. Mrs Brailich and Mrs Northcott were ready to lead the singing on the minibus all the way to Brighton – what a treat for the girls! Friday was so special, the team arrived in Brighton in good time for a brief encounter in the shops! The team then had a meal in the hotel restaurant and then a detailed team talk before bedtime. Every girl was in bed by 9.30pm and ready for their hard day ahead.
After the “all you can eat” breakfast at the hotel, we were on our way to Roedean School. Once again the S. Anselm’s song – Proud by M People was on repeat and very loud! It was time to see some outstanding National standard netball. S. Anselm’s warmed up well and confidently. They certainly looked on par with the U13 teams we were about to play. Overall the matches played were outstanding, Charlotte P and Emily G-P pressurised their opponents, Millie C, Georgia R-S and Nancy J worked tirelessly in the centre court and Poppy M, Georgina H and Fleur G continued to provide opportunities for shots on goal. It was also great to see Freya H contributing well to the team play. The team had outstanding matches particularly against Beaudesert Park, Greshams, Cheam and Dumpton School. They were not to get through to the Semi finals. However, The S. Anselm’s team certainly provided matches at National level which were end to end netball. It showed that with continued hard work and more coaching opportunities at S. Anselm’s we will continue to play netball at a National level. This years’ U13 side have certainly put the school on the map for top netball and the girls will continue to impress at their Senior schools playing A team and hopefully making National finals once again. It was a great and valuable experience for us all. I would like to thank the girls for a fantastic weekend. They have been brilliant company and outstanding role models for the school. Another Thank you must go to all the parents for their support not only to the team but also to myself. It has been a privilege to work with your daughters. Well done U13A team I am so proud of you all! Remember you are still Regional netball winners! We won the toss and sensibly chose to take the first centre pass, which meant we were able to score and get ahead. Evie D did very well to score 3 to Wellow's 2 goals in the first quarter - great start! Lily H and Immy N played an important part in getting the ball into the circle, making longer passes, which we had been practicing. The score at half time was 4-3, no time to relax and Livi BD played confidently as GK, intercepting many of Wellow's attempts on goal to keep their score down. It was the second half, where we looked like a team to be reckoned with - dominating possession and the scoreboard. Evie D successfully shot 7 goals, totaling a massive 11 for the match and Tara OR scored 3, giving us a winning score of 14 to Wellow's 4. A great achievement and whole team effort - brilliant girls!

U11A at Rugby School Tournament

Group Round:

The under 11A girls had very long way to travel for this tournament, but to their credit hit the court running, showing focus and determination from the offset. After an easy initial two games, with victories against Bablake and Milton Keynes, we faced IAPS U11 Regional Netball Winners Fairfield. Our girls had an awesome 1st half, holding them goal for goal, leading to a 3-3 draw at half-time. In the second half they came out all gun a’blazing and were quick to pick up a few goals. Our girls managed to maintain this awesome form for the remainder of the game, and the IAPS champ were defeated! A sloppy first half against Spratton Hall saw us being ahead by one goal at half-time; but after another superb 2nd half, we secured a further ten, to ensure a comfortable win.
As winners of the group, we faced runners up of the other group, Warwick Prep in the semi-finals and comfortable beat them 7 – 1. Runners up of our group, Fairfield beat the winners of the other group in the other semi-final; so this meant we faced them again in the final for 1st and 2nd overall. A disastrous first half saw us trailing0 – 2 at half-time, but we went into the second half fighting and quickly pegged it back to 3 – 2 to us. Unfortunately energy levels were zapped, (it has been a very busy term), muscles were tired, (with Oonagh actually pulling a thigh muscle in an earlier game) and Fairfield threw everything they had at us in order to secure a win and ensure our girls were the ones to bring home the silver medals.
A super effort girls you all worked your socks off today to right some of the injustices of the imbalanced IAPS draw last week, well played! Thanks to Mr Brock for driving and our ever faithful parental supporters, who also greatly assisted with team injuries today too! We certainly gave you something to cheer about today!

This closely contested game saw our under 11 girls pitched against a ginormous Sheffield High team. Having 50+ girls to pick from and playing netball over two terms, we knew their squad would be experienced, confident and strong – they did not disappoint. Our girls were off to a good start, whereas S.H.S. were a little slow initially, probably due to their coach journey. Halfway through this quarter their shooters found their form and our girls realised a lot of dodging was required to outwit the S.H.S. opponents’ octopus reaches. Our girls adapted very well to the addition of Gabby T to the squad, with the attack gelling extremely quickly. Our shooters, Annie, Arabella H and Gabby all shot very well, whilst Oonagh and Georgy timed their interceptions superbly. Faced with a giant of an opponent, Jess worked hard to outwit her.
Our girls had the edge in all of the first three quarters, with every player working extremely hard and went into the 4th quarter with a cushion of 5 goals. The S.H.S. shooters rarely missed in this quarter and the fatigue of our girls began to show. Fortunately the cushion of five goals proved to be just enough, with our girls clinging on to a vital confident-building victory, well done girls!
It is great so many girls got match experience and in 7 positions we had 11 girls playing! The score was very close as both teams battled to win. The High School took an early lead but our girls played good netball to get the score back to a draw. In the last quarter the High School got one more goal and won the match, although both teams agreed it had been a close match. In defence Alice S and Sky U get a special mention for their team work in the first half. Sky was the ‘Player of the match’ for her contribution here and also for doing an extra run to the kitchen to collect oranges for half time! Now the team needs to concentrate on getting the ball into our attacking third and also some goal shooting practise would be very helpful.
Thank you for all the effort girls and also for the supporters who came to watch.

This was the second tournament of the term for these girls, but the standard was considerably higher than the last, with them competing against the strongest prep. Schools from Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, West Midlands, Derbyshire and Norfolk. We faced Witham (eventual tournament winners), in the first game and despite drawing 3 – 3 with them at half-time went on to lose 3 – 7, after a lack of playing consistency in the second half. After regrouping we went on to have a fabulous game against Glebe House, with shooters Emily H and Clare T rarely missing, winning 10 – 2! The 3rd game saw a repeat of the 1st, despite drawing 1 – 1 with Akeley Wood at half-time, a disastrous 2nd half once again saw us being beaten 1 – 4 in this game. In the 4th game, against Fairfield Prep, a strong netball school, there was carnage on court, with Georgia R receiving a nasty blow to the nose, which bled profusely and other players from both teams also falling over. Our girls upped their play to the next level and battled superbly to ensure we won this game 4 -3! It is the nature of tournaments – despite having beaten Fairfield, they then went on later in the day to win the bowl competition!
We faced two tough games in the afternoon and luck was not always on our side umpiring-wise. That coupled with a lack of playing consistency and a slowness to switch from attack to defence mode, saw us losing 4 – 6 to St. John’s (eventual plate competition winners), and Brooke Priory 4 -5.
Many lessons were learnt on this day, but our under 10s do have the capability to play stylish, slick netball. Now we need to work on seeing it all the time and not just for some of the time. Many thanks to our superb supporters for really giving the under 10 and under 12 girls a boost!
Motivator of the tournament – Emma H ( Thank you for coming along to support and motivate the U12A team for the whole day particularly with an injury!)

What a super day of netball, the weather was perfect and the dynamic team were ready for action after a successful game of netball on the previous day v Abbots Bromley. The team had a very hard section and it was going to be tight. It was lovely to see Georgina H and Jessica R-S supporting the team from the U11 side of which they were both extremely valuable players throughout the day. In the first game V Wellow House, it started off very close and at half time the score was only 2 – 1 this was not down to bad play just missed shots on goal from S. Anselm’s. However, Olivia C certainly turned this around in the 2nd half and the team whizzed onto winning 7 – 2. After a motivational team talk which included Mrs Northcott highlighting that she needed to see sparkle on court! The team looked like they were ready to win the next few games of which they did! Super play once again from G Turner and O Cridland as well as solid defensive play from Georgina H, Eleanor T and Fran F. The matches V St John’s and Witham Hall were very close and the opposition were good solid sides. All S. Anselm’s needed to do was to play there own game and cope under pressure. S. Anselm’s rose to the challenge. Lily S and Chloe R-S worked tirelessly in the centre court and fed the shooters with confidence and flare! It was super to see L Rusling, Emma H and Jessica R-S providing crucial encouragement at all times to their fellow players. It was also great to see the team winning their section and getting through to the semi finals as winners. The match was against Oakham. They were tall and skilful, however S. Anselm’s certainly stepped up a gear and won the semi final convincingly. Great play from the shooters particularly and once again the team worked hard off the ball to ensure constant pressure on the opposition. The final was against Spratton Hall, once again very very tall players! ( even Mrs Northcott looked small!). S. Anselm’s started off well and in defence, Georgina H and Fran F certainly defended hard in the shooting circle but the opposing shooters were just too tall! Chloe R-S as Centre went down with a hand injury of which Jessica R-S came to life on court immediately in the centre position and made her debut calmly and confidently ( Well done once again!). Overall S. Anselm’s put up a good fight but Spratton Hall went ahead late on in the first half and this was just enough to ensure their win in the final. Overall it was a super day of netball and it was lovely for us all to see a spectacular performance from all the players in the U12A side. Once again, it was a very proud moment and outstanding netball from a strong team at S. Anselm’s. Anselm’s under 12s played a very fluid game and won a comfortable 19-3 against an under 13 team today. Furthermore, all the girls in the fourth year who were ‘fit to play’ contributed to this game.
The defending combination of Francesca FH, Gabby T and Lucy R played well together and they took a number of interceptions. They only allowed 3 goals from the opposition in 40 minutes playing time. In centre court Lily S and Eleanor T worked hard and Chloe RS had an outstanding game and was our ‘Player of the Match’. In attack Olivia C continued with her high standard from yesterday’s tournament and Lucy R and Gabby T also got shots on target. On average these girls scored one goal every two minutes. We also saw Georgia D, Hannah S and Harriet R play one quarter each and all three girls were great helpers with the time keeping too.
Well done girls and thank you for all the off court support.

U13A v Abbots Bromley Won 32-6

U13's at Regional IAPS Tournament

Results: S. The minibus was rocking into the Worksop College Car Park with M People – “Proud” playing loud and clear! The U13A team were well on their way to feeling motivated and ready for action. Apart from Nancy J asking Mrs Northcott to turn the music down after the 25th time of the same song!! On a serious note, the U13 side were focussed and determined to play the best netball of their prep school career and we were all excited to see it. We were not disappointed. Having seen the team in action throughout the tournament they were impressive in their attacking play, defensively strong and tight, shots were sinking in one after another and the S. Anselm’s players worked tirelessly off the ball. I find it impossible to talk about each match due to the fact that throughout the whole tournament the 8 woman team worked cohesively and confidently. We saw outstanding performances particularly against Ranby, Bromsgrove and Witham Hall. The team got stronger as the opposition got stronger. It was a pleasure to see all training skills and tactics coming to life with flair and confidence. I would like to highlight key words for each player of which I am very proud of.
Mnemonic :SPLENDID
Fleur G (GS) Successful shots (Calm in movement and calm with shots on goal played with accuracy and confidence)
Georgina H (GA) Pressure play (outstanding in court play and shooting circle against tough defence. Handles pressure well, careful with her choice of tactic in attack and shooting circle.)
Nancy J ( WA) Losing is not an option ( Constantly works on winning the ball, winning space on court and being hungry for the ball with intention to win).
Georgia R-S(C ) Excellence ( in every way, as the key linkage player on court,
Excellent in attack, out of defence and works tirelessly on and off the ball)
Millie C (WD) No nonsense ( marks the opposition tightly and controls the centre court well, ensures that the ball is accurately sent to attack with confidence and strength)
Poppy M ( GA, GD) Determination ( 100% commitment on and off the ball. Hungry for the ball with constant pressurising on the opposition in every way)
Emily G-P (GD) Interception and Inspiration ( times the interception to perfection, defensively confident and inspires her team continuously!)
Charlotte P ( GK) Domination ( The best GK I have ever worked with at U13 level. Defends hard, marks her opponent out of position, wins the ball with confidence).

I would like to thank the team for working so hard and for performing brilliantly at the Regional IAPS
Tournament. All players have listened to key advice and displayed their skill and teamwork
throughout the whole tournament ( 9 matches!). I am so proud of the team in their support for each
other, rising to the challenge and for their fine performance of netball. A truly memorable day. We do
have a tough weekend ahead of us, however if we continue with our determination and coping under
pressure, I am confident that the team will be once again successful. So much ahead of us girls – it is
there for the taking. Good Luck at the IAPS National Finals – Mrs Brailich and myself are very much
looking forward to it. I will make sure that I bring M People – “Proud song” with us……… Don’t

WON 6 - 4

Players of the Match: EVIE D

The Elms arrived early so we all had time for a good warm up, lots of shooting practice, which stood us in good stead. Once the game was underway, we dominated the score board, Tara O-R scored our first goal, set up by great play from Evie D and Immy N. Evie then managed to score our next three goals with accurate shooting technique, unlike The Elms, who despite a number of attempts did not score a goal until the third quarter. It was at this point, the match became very exciting, end to end play yet The Elms had the edge. They intercepted many of our passes and improved their shooting technique - scoring three goals. We lacked accurate passing and marking of opposite players, also the ability to "meet" a pass and not wait for it to come to us, as it will be intercepted. Going into the last quarter, we had everything to play for, the score 4-3 to us and the girls did not disappoint. They improved their passing and marking and we managed two goals scored by Tara O-R and Evie D to win 6-4. Well done girls, a good win but some points to work on in practices.
However, our B team girls tried hard to improve their play and didn’t seem to lose spirit despite the heavy defeat.
Poppy S created some good passes through the centre third and Amelia M tried hard to adapt to her new role in defense. Izzy F captained the side incredibly well and scored our only goal in the 2nd quarter.
Coaching tips for the future might involve learning how to use the spring in their legs to jump for the ball, snatching the ball quickly, marking more closely and moving into spaces before signaling for the ball.
Although we lost the match, we certainly didn’t let it dampen our spirits too much. It was a pleasure to accompany the girls on this match. Thanks also to Mr Weller who kindly offered to drive us to the match.
Emily H 's shooting was as strong as ever. There were some great passes into her particularly in the first quarter. However as the team pulled further ahead the passing became less effective and often found the oppositions hands first. Despite a good victory and much harsher umpiring towards our team there are several areas that will need work if the team are to be successful in the tournament at Oakham on Sunday.

-Closer marking of key players such as the GS

-More effective centre passes

- Accurate passing to our team!

- Opening up the court and less crowding of the ball

Georgia R and Clare T both had super games but the Player of the Match must go to Emily for her accurate shooting.

Special thanks to all 4 captains – Georgie H, Poppy M, Nancy J & Freya H for your superb organisation, great motivation and urging your teams on in such a positive way. Thanks to all the under 13 girls who played out of position for the benefit of their team too, selfless and impressive! In the end with 3 teams on the same points it all boiled down to goal difference. Thanks to Mrs Northcott and Mrs Whawell for their umpiring and contribution to the tournament and to all the supporters for cheering the girls on. Player of the match – too many to name!

A splendid performance of netball and hair styles were highlighted in the sportshall at S. Anselm’s on Saturday 27th February 2010. Yes, it was that time of the year for the Mothers to show their daughters how netball should be played. Overall the match showed skill, versatility, teamwork and lots of laughs along the way. The mothers kit was certainly something that S. Anselm’s pupils will not be adopting – coloured wigs! Yes, we saw multicoloured spiked hair, thanks to Mrs FitzSimons, long purple curly totally out of control wig, thanks to Mrs Penrose and even a short bright pink bob thanks to Mrs Green ( of which really suited her!). Mrs G-P was ready with her team of fine players and as soon as the whistle went, the mothers were off! In the first quarter, the U13 girls played very well and certainly stepped up to 6th gear ending the first quarter, 9 – 2. The crucial part of this match is all about the whole U13 girls side playing equal amounts of play of which was ensured. So at the end of the first quarter it was time for another tactical change to the teams. As the play progressed, the mothers certainly gained in confidence and won the second quarter 7 – 6, and drew the third and fourth quarter 8 – 8 and 3 – 3. The girls all played opposite their mothers which fuelled a lot of competition and the occasional cuddle on court! The final score was 23 – 17 to the U13 girls. It was a super ending to a full day of sport at S. Anselm’s. Thank you to Mrs G-P for taking charge of the parent’s team and to all the parents for a brilliant match and for creating an infectious happy atmosphere. The match ended with drinks and nibbles in the Foster Building Common Room and a special treat for the girls - fruit cocktails followed by a Chinese meal at Slieve Mor. It was certainly a Prawn Cracker of a day! Another closely contested competition, with it all boiling down to the last round games, to see who had won. It was super to see our under 11 girls leading by example, whilst our under 10 girls definitely held their own and showed how much progress they have made in such a short term. Special thanks to our captains – Georgy Harrison, Oonagh Sargentson, Arabella Abbott and Ella Nieper, for organising and motivating their teams superbly. It was great to see so many parents coming along to support the girls too, thanks to all of you.

It was a very cold afternoon of netball hit by snow storms but still lots of sunshine. However, the courts at S. Anselm’s were certainly hot hot hot! The team had their captain absent due to illness and we wish her a speedy recovery, which meant that Poppy M happily stepped in as Goal defence from her original position as a shooter.
Mrs Northcott was very confident with her team and after a “losing is not an option” team talk the girls were ready to play. They looked feisty, confident and slick as the clock ticked up to 2 minutes and S. Anselm’s were in the lead 2 – 0. Ranby had two key players and it was important that the team worked to pressurise this area. Georgina H and Fleur G played well together in the shooting circle and it was super to see a variation of moves that had been practised in training. Nancy J, Georgia R-S and Millie C worked well in the centre court once again, all attacking the ball and moving well down the court. At the end of the first quarter the scoreline was 7 – 2. In the second and third quarter, the strength of the game certainly was with the S. Anselm’s defence. Charlotte P and Poppy M pressurised the shooters and gained possession again and again which allowed the attack and shooters to convert the goals and increase the scoreline. Charlotte P in particular marked tightly and was strong with the ball when possession was gained – well done Charlotte! The half time score was an impressive 14 – 6 and at three quarter time 20 - 10. At times the play got a bit scrappy and there was a loss of concentration, however, when the team re- focussed the Ranby team were taken by surprise at the speed of the movement and passing of S. Anselm’s. It was a great match, very competitive and played in excellent spirit. A huge thank you must go to Fleur G for re-organising her meeting to enable her to play for the whole match and also to Poppy M who played so brilliantly as Goal defence. We hope that Captain G-P feels better soon – we miss you G-P! Well done to all players and thank you to parents for super support in such cold conditions. MPN
GS – Annie GP / Arabella H
GD – Oonagh S
GK – Sky U
Player of the match – Oonagh S, for superbly timed interceptions, excellent tips and solid defending.

The under 11 girls faced all weather conditions in their game today against Ranby – sun, wind, then plenty of snow! They were off to a flying start, soon 4 – 0 up, with slick passing and accurate shooting. Ranby then found their form and the game was fairly end to end, but our shooters suffered a minor shooting blip, giving Ranby a chance to get back into the game. The score was 4 – 4 at one stage, but we had pulled ahead to 6 – 4 by quarter time.
The second quarter saw more of the same, with Ranby firmly back in the game and it all boiling down to shooting accuracy. After pegging back the two goals, we were level and each centre saw us score, then on the next Ranby would equalise. At times we needed to mark our partners more effectively; and ensure after making our fabulous well timed interceptions that we didn’t throw the ball away on the next pass. With a real concerted effort just prior to half time we were able to remain two goals ahead at half time.
In the third quarter we had a real stormer, converting goal after goal, and it was the turn of the Ranby shooters to have a blip. Our mid court play was also super with everyone working hard to tip the ball, enabling our team to rush in to secure the lose balls – Arabella A was exceptional at picking them up. Jess RS was unflappable and determined, working tirelessly to bring the ball back to our shooters. Sky had a great second half, keeping with her partner and snatching away inaccurate passes into the D. Oonagh was superb, timing her interceptions immaculately and she played a huge role in regaining possession of the ball, causing the Ranby Goal Attack to become frustrated. Down our attacking end Jess, Beth, Annie and Arabella H had a stormer, with some superb passes into and in the D. Their confidence and compatibility really shone through, with the two shooters in particular predicting each other’s moves perfectly. This quarter saw us go 8 goals up and the constant snow was no problem for these girls.
In the 4th quarter the girls managed to extend this lead to ten, with Ella N showing us how impressively she can jump. A solid team performance, with our set moves working extremely well and our pace being hot. A great result, particularly as we were playing without our usual defender Georgy – speedy recovery to her. Great job girls, more new ideas next games session, we are on a roll! Thanks to all our loyal supporters who braved the extreme elements to support us today – fabulous job to you all, we really appreciate it!
Our under 12 girls played an extremely well to hold a win, be it by one goal.
The defence had an outstanding match. Francesca FH continued with her side on marking and was able to watch both player and ball. Nancy S, player of the match, marked a much taller opponent but really gave 100% to stick with her and took a number of interceptions and helped to drive the play up court. In centre court Emma H returned after injury and was able to stay with her player and take tips and interceptions. Chloe RS linked defence with attack and added to the game darting from one third to the next. Lily S provided a good feed of the ball into the ‘D’ and held her space consistently. In attack Olivia had an excellent game. She drove forward to offer and had some athletic runs into the circle and her shooting was sound. Lucy, too, shot well and I was pleased to see she reoffered to get closer to the goal.
In summary, it was a great team performance and an exciting game to watch. We must now really concentrate on reducing the number of long overhead passes and spacing out more on court.
