This week saw the historic opening of S. Anselm’s College. The seven pioneers donned their striking new uniforms and prepared themselves for an action-packed first week.
School House has been beautifully transformed into the College social area. A comfy common room (complete with table tennis) has been well received and the dining room with attached kitchen is used for meals and preparing snacks and hot drinks during breaks.
The induction week consisted of many activities, including scuba diving, tennis coaching at Abbeydale, a gallery visit in Sheffield, sailing at Carsington, cycling the Monsal Trail, a fitness session at Born 2 Move and the highlight, an excursion up Kinder Scout. As Year 9 is called Kinder, we enjoyed hearing from Geoff, the estate’s gamekeeper, about the rich history and significance of this area.
To finish the week off, the pupils prepared a presentation evening for their families on Friday night which was followed by a barbecue. My thanks go out to the seven families who attended the evening and made it such an enjoyable experience. JM
