S. Anselm’s swimming teams will be heading to the National English School Swimming Association (ESSA) Finals after winning the Freestyle Relay and Mixed Stroke Relay in the Midlands Division Gala on Friday 28th April.
Two teams of Year 5 and Year 6 children, aged from 9 to 11, travelled to the Meridian Leisure Centre in Louth, Lincolnshire, to compete in the gala against schools from across Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
The children did extremely well to win in both races, especially as most of the children have never participated in an event of this scale before. The competition was particularly strong and we had to work hard to take first place in the mixed relay, gaining the lead in the last two lengths. All their training and dedication certainly paid off!
We’re extremely proud that S. Anselm’s will be representing the Midlands region in the National Finals in Sheffield in June – to compete in an event like this is a wonderful experience for the children.
198 schools from across the UK will be participating in the finals which will take place at Ponds Forge in Sheffield on Saturday 17th June.
