Spanish Day was ‘estupendo’ from start to finish. The vibrant scene was set with the arrival of pupils donning their finest Spanish wear. ‘Las chicas’ looked stunning in their flamenco dresses complete with flowers in their hair and fans in their hands. ‘Los chicos’ went to a great effort too; waiters, a Spanish cyclist, a zorro to name but a few.
The day started with an assembly and a sing-a-long to ‘La Cuchracha’ The pupils all sang their Spanish hearts out and were left thirsty for more fun. Our guest for the day was Laura the Flamenco Dancer. The amazing dancer who has toured Spain in Flamenco Spectaculars had come to S. Anselm's to teach the pupils the art of this mesmerizing dance. After an inspiring demonstration the pupils attended a workshop where they learnt the art of ‘El Flamenco.’ The pupils true to form, embraced every second of the master class and learnt some great moves for the next school disco.
‘La comida’ for the day continued the Spanish theme. ‘Churros con chocolate’ went down a storm at morning break and the Spanish banquet of ‘paella’ at lunchtime was simply ‘deliciosa’ and nicely washed down with a pupil version of Sangria.
All in all, it was a hugely successful day and the pupils definitely ‘se lo pasaron bomba’ (had a great time!)
