Sporting Success in Barbados!

What a start to the fixtures - played 3, won 3!!!!!!!!!! There was triumph for the boys in their cricket match against Bayleys and also for the girls in their two netball fixtures against St Bernard's.

1sts v St Bernard's A, Won 21 - 4, Player of the match Lily H:

We all found the heat difficult to adjust to, the weather here is REALLY hot and we started play at 11am, which is getting on for the hottest time of the day! We all played outstandingly, with the shooting being impressive, interceptions coming thick and fast and mid court play speedy and energetic. The team swapped around in the 3rd and 4th quarters, with Sophie J scoring lots of goals and me playing as centre. We really enjoyed our first match and came away with two amazing results.

2nds v St Bernard's B, Won 14 - 1, Player of the match Georgie G:

Despite the heat, we adjusted well. This team were small on average, so we used our height to grab the ball quickly. St Bernard's were not used to the faster pace of our netball and we took full advantage, adding 8 goals to our total in the first quarter. At half time we swapped positions, but still managed to add more goals to our total, well played everybody!

This was a great start to our fixtures and I was pleased with how all of the girls played and impressed by how they coped with the heat. The shooting today was superb and the speed on court amazing considering the 26 degree heat. The girls also impressed with their manners and interaction with the St Bernards' pupils - a lot of whom had come to watch the games. The hosts were impressed with their S. Anselm's torches and a lot of fun was had by both teams playing ball games with each other, as the other team played. After the game the school invited us to enjoy home cooked fish cakes, muffins and cakes, before a photo shoot of both teams. We then presented the netball coach with one of our tour booklets and a hand painted school plaque, with captain Emily making a short speech thanking everybody for hosting us. All in all a great day, with everybody looking forward to the Harbour Lights Beach Party tonight!

Cricket v Bayley's

In the opening cricket fixture the boys rescued a poor bowling display with some excellent batting, coming out winners by four wickets with two overs to spare. Opting to field first Ludo and Jack P were the pick of the bowlers, but poor fielding and a huge number of extras meant S. Anselm's were set a total of 146 to win. An opening stand of 50 from Toby C (22) and Max W (22) got the boys off to a good start. After both openers fell in quick succession, Ludo and Angus put on 20 before there was a run collapse. It was left to Ludo (36 not out), Tom B (14) and Cameron H (17 not out), to lead the team home to victory. Lots to work on but great to start the tour with a win!
