Steel Pan Workshop

Steel Pan Workshop

The snow challenged most this week but our Steel Pan leaders scheduled for Friday braved the journey from Birmingham and delivered a fantastic morning of traditional Trinidad & Tobago music learning. We learnt why and how the steel pans came about from our Jamaican born leader Sofia and performed rolls, arpeggios and chords on the sonorous pans with sunken hollows allowing the pitch to change. Some pupils picked up the grooves quickly and we even witnessed Freddie M dancing whilst playing, no mean feat! All pupils present in school on Friday participated in the workshop from years 3 through to 8 bringing a little sun into an otherwise wintery week.
