Boarding report – 13th and 14th September

With all of Year 6 and a lot of Year 7 & 8 boys out on sports tours it was looking like it would be a quiet weekend for the remaining boarders. Saturday afternoon started with some free time and a chance to catch up with things like emails. Saturday night treat is always something to look forward to as the children snuggled up in onesies and duvets, munched snacks and drank lemonade. We managed to find enough room (and snacks!) for four different films, with each group deciding together democratically what they would like to watch.

A leisurely lie in Sunday was appreciated, followed by an incursion into Bakewell consisting of visiting Costa for a smoothie, then to the sweetshop and finally ending in the park.

It was great just to chill out, feed the ducks and go on the swings. The Year 8 girls decided to spend their sweet money in the Co -Op and Amber managed to find a coke bottle with her name on it!

Kyle also enjoyed showing off his gobstoppers that turned his tongue interesting and strange colours.

After a hearty lunch there was swimming, board games and activities in the sports hall. The children played badminton, table tennis or knockout Frisbee (my personal favourite!). As ever this was followed by a church service led by the brilliant Canon Tony and a lovely roast dinner cooked by Sue and Karen in the kitchen. It is always great to see parents come along for this and it is always a fitting way to end the weekend. Sam U and Tom H volunteered to entertain us during our deserts with their brass rendition of ‘China’. The sports tour group returned looking content yet exhausted and got stuck into the roast. A fantastic weekend was had by all! JM
