Our Year 1 and 2 children were treated to a fantastic Theatre-in-Education session with Malcolm from 'The Play House', Birmingham on Monday 6th February, who spent 90 minutes taking them through the story of the Great Fire of London.
In the role of 'Al', a young trainee at Farrynor’s Bakery, the children helped him re-trace his steps through the events of the fire and tried to reunite him with his cat, Lucky. As a piece of participatory theatre, the children were fully involved from the outset providing houses to be burned down, making bucket chains to put out the fire and offering support and suggestions to Al for what he could do next.
The emotional reunion of Al and Lucky at the end brought a tear to our eyes and captivated the children beautifully!
Thank you to The Play House for an exceptionally stimulating and enjoyable afternoon that really helped to consolidate our learning in Year 2 and introduce the story to Year 1’s.
