The annual trip to Grove Farm was, as always, greatly anticipated and very much enjoyed by Year 4. The visit started with a look at the recent additions of lambs to the farm and of course a cuddle with a particularly willing participant!
After this, we learnt about the busy life of a farmer, the progression of a cow’s life from calf to milk provider, the different types of feed and quantities used on the farm and the tagging and tracking system for cows and sheep. We were then lucky enough to be able to bottle feed some of the calves and have a closer look at their teeth.
The children then enjoyed an invigorating walk across the fields before lunch which was eaten in a barn on hay bales. Being able to run and jump across the bales was a great treat and resulted in our visit being reported as “the best Year 4 trip ever!”
It was fantastic for the children to experience a primary industry first hand. A huge thanks once again to Mr Bonsall who always make us so welcome and the visit so informative and enjoyable for the children and staff alike.
