In Science, the Y5’s most recent topic has been Properties of Materials. As an extension to this, the pupils were set the task of designing a guinea pig hutch, which, due to an aunt’s allergy to pet hair, had to be built for the outdoors.
This meant thinking about waterproofing, strengths of materials and the needs of the guinea pigs.
The children were very excited by the challenge, and working in the D.T. room. Lots of problem solving took place, and many new designing and making skills were acquired. The finished products may be viewed outside our classrooms.
