The annual trip to Grove Farm was, as always, greatly anticipated and very much enjoyed by Year 4. The visit started with a bracing walk through fields to gain an idea of the size and history of the farm. After this, we learnt about the busy life of a dairy farmer, the progression of a cow’s life from calf to milk provider, the different types of feed and quantities used on the farm and the tagging and tracking system for cows and sheep. The highlights, however, were being able to hold lambs, some of which were only 24 hours old, and jumping across hay bales in the barn!
It was fantastic for the children to experience a primary industry first hand and to see the processes involved in producing the milk they have on their cereals.
Huge thanks once again to Mr & Mrs Bonsall who always make us so welcome and the visit so informative and enjoyable for the children and staff alike.
