A busy week ahead: Performing Arts

Musicians and actors are encouraged to have a restful Exeat weekend, with a busy week of performances and events next week.  Do contact Jon Weller, Director of Performing Arts, or the School Office for more information if your questions are not answered below:

Monday 25 June

7pm        Performance of "Honk! the Musical" by our year 8 pupils, Hargreaves Hall.
Based on the story of the ugly duckling, "Honk! the Musical" is full of action, humour as well as the odd poignant moment and some excellent music.  The performance lasts for approximately 2 hours (including a brief, 10 minute interval).  Refreshments will be served in the Foster Common Room at the end of the performance.  Contact the School Office to reserve a seat.  Collection for day pupil year 8s will be around 9.15pm

Wednesday 27 June

6.30pm     Summer Concert
The finale of the musical year and for our leaving year 8s.
All parents are invited - and encouraged to hear performances from:

Year 8 soloists Year 8 Girls' Choir Chapel Choir
Swing Band Chamber Orchestra Recorder Ensemble
String Orchestra Guitar Ensemble

Performers (boarders and day pupils) will be given supper at 5.30pm.

This concert is also an opportunity to say a huge 'Thank you' to Sue Dumpleton who retires at the end of this term from her work at S Anselm's after 20 years of fantastic service as a peripatetic music teacher.
There will be refreshments after the concert in the Foster Common Room, during which some formal words of thanks will be given.

Friday 29 June

Swing Band & 20% perfect - Olympic Torch entertainment
We have been lucky enough to secure a 45-minute session performing in Bakewell Park as part of the build up to the Olympic Torch Relay.  This will begin at 2.30 and finish at 3.15, in enough time for us to make our way to watch the torch with the rest of the school.   Please do come along and support - there seem to be a lot of exciting things being organised (and let's hope for good weather)

and

Chapel Choir Concert in Papplewick Church
In the evening, the Chapel Choir are giving a concert to members of the Nottinghamshire History Churches Trust in Papplewick Church.  This will not include our year 8s, who will be having their formal dinner that evening, but will give an opportunity to the core of next year's choir to impress the audience in what is a beautiful small church.  Tickets are very limited, and may now be sold out, but do contact Anthony Marriott if you are keen to come and don't yet have tickets.  The concert is approximately 50 mins long and begins at 8 pm.

Sunday 1 July

Songs of Praise service, 10.30 am, Hargreaves Hall
There's no better way to finish off the week than to sing your favourite hymns.  The pupils have chosen their favourites, and I hope we'll have a good crowd of parents to boost the singing.  (We'll be without our year 8s).  Come along and join us for the final service of the year - with more hymns than your average Sunday morning.

I hope to see you at some of these events.  Have a lovely exeat,

Jon Weller
