A cracking weekend!

A cracking weekend!

This weekend was all about choice. There were well over seven different activities on offer so the kids were royally entertained from morning till night. There was something for everyone!

Sedburgh tour left straight after lunch on Saturday and the boys had a marvellous weekend both socially and out on the rugby pitch. A win against Ampleforth was probably the highlight but the fun and banter on the bus was a close second! A meal out and some tom-foolery on the beach meant that this was a weekend for all the chaps to remember. Thanks very much to Paul Berry, Jon Watt and all the parents who endured a long journey to cheer heartily from the side -line. This left a few idle Fifth Year boys back at base but they were rescued by the Slieve More girls and Mrs Berry who invited them down to Slieve Mor for delicious chocolate cake and a film to celebrate Georgie's birthday. Mrs Northcott refused to miss out on the fun and joined them for a cosy night in!

The next morning the boys and girls jumped out of bed eager to get on with the best day of the week! Mr Eaton's assembly discussed the need to forgive others and the grand singing suggested the boys and girls had bags of enthusiasm for the day ahead. After a roast lunch the activities began in earnest!

A great time was had in sunny Bakewell with the Price / Berry outings meeting up in the park. Jemima and Amelia got rather wet and little Evie beat many a hasty retreat from the cold water with squeels of laughter. The Calluns went to the Chestnut Centre where the children were wowed by the incredible range and beauty of the wildlife there. They returned unscathed but full of treats from the cafe!

Mr Mace took an adventurous crew off to Ponds Forge for a wild splash about. The wave machine was the highlight but the flumes were a mile long and flung us out at a frightening pace. Walter and Donald braved the big pool and were closely supervised by the junior boys! After an exhausting hour we all munched on chocolate cookies at the cafe before piling back onto the bus and heading home to collapse.

More serious things were going on back at base with the senior girls having a ferocious battle with Witham Hall. This was all played in with the right spirit and Mrs Northcott was delighted with the performance. Georgie Hinckley was player of the match due to her superb captaincy and her incredible work rate. Back off site the Wildgoose family had generously donated their time and space to entertain some Fourth Year boys with some fly-fishing on their estate. Lovely cake and drinks were served and the boys had a tremendous time  fishing on the bank in glorious sunshine. We are all very grateful for their immense hospitality. Oh, and there was some art going on on site too!

This was a typical S. Anselm's weekend full of fun and adventure, challenges and highs! As ever, the children were a delight and will have some great stories and memories to relate at exeat ......... after which it will all happen again!
