During the blizzard conditions, we thought about our feelings as we witnessed the battle between cold and hot. Ralph Waldo Emerson expresses a little of our emotions and we used his poem to write about our experiences of snow in Bakewell. By 8B English
The original looked like this:
Extract from ‘The Snowstorm’ by Ralph Waldo Emerson
Announced by all the trumpets of the sky,
Arrives the snow, and, driving o'er the fields,
Seems nowhere to alight: the whited air
Hides hills and woods, the river, and the heaven,
And veils the farmhouse at the garden's end.
The sled and traveller stopped, the courier's feet
Delayed, all friends shut out, the housemates sit
Around the radiant fireplace, enclosed
In a tumultuous privacy of storm.
By Ralph Waldo Emerson
And Our Versions look like this:
Announced by the chill of the sky,
Arrives the snow, and, driving o'er icy roads,
Seems nowhere to alight: the misty air
Hides valleys and streams, the mountains , and the skies,
And hoods the castle at the garden's end.
The cars and boats stopped, the post man’s feet
Delayed, all friends shut out, the pals sit
Around the noisy fireplace, enclosed
In a tumultuous privacy of blizzard.

Announced by the sudden chill of the sky,
Arrives the snow, and, driving o'er the houses,
Seems nowhere to alight: the arctic air
Hides valleys and dales, the stream, and above,
And overspreads the school at the garden's end.
The man and the dog stopped, the delivery man’s feet
Delayed, all friends shut out, the pupils sit
Around the grand fireplace, enclosed
In a tumultuous privacy of snow tempest.

Announced by the chill of the sky,
Arrives the snow, and, driving o'er the pale hill,
Seems nowhere to alight: the icy air
Hides the peak and valleys, the dales, and the hills
And quarry the sheep at the garden's end.
The artic chill and the icy blizzard stopped, the whole world’s feet
Delayed, all friends shut out, the family sits
Around the glorious fireplace, enclosed
In a tumultuous privacy of leaden skies.

Announced by the chills of the sky
Arrives the snow, and, driving o'er the icy road,
Seems nowhere to alight: the white air
Hides the peak and valleys, the sleepy sheep and the chilled cows,
And blankets the trees at the garden's end.
The houses and cars stopped, the man’s feet
Delayed, all friends shut out, and the family sits Around the blazing fireplace, enclosed
In a tumultuous privacy of closed curtains.

Announced by the sudden chill of the sky,
Arrives the snow, and, driving o'er the peak,
Seems nowhere to alight: the candy floss air
Hides hills and valleys, the bridge, and the cars,
And camouflages the sheep at the garden's end.
The car and the truck stopped, the travellers’’ feet
Delayed, all friends shut out, the companions sit
Around the warm fireplace, enclosed
In a tumultuous privacy of the snow blizzard.

Announced by bright white of the sky,
Arrives the snow, and, driving o'er the icy banks ,
Seems nowhere to alight: the condensed air
Hides the and the valleys , the stream , and the faint out line of the animals ,
And mist of the house at the garden's end.
The sledgers and challengers stopped, the postman’s feet
Delayed, all friends shut out, the friends sit
around the rocky open fireplace, enclosed
in a tumultuous privacy of a blizzard.
