Bikability Successes

Bikability Successes

Well done to the first group of pupils from S. Anselm’s who have been awarded their level 2 ‘Bikability’ (that’s cycling proficiency to those of us who’re a bit older).

This was an absolutely super day with the weather really treating us to some glorious autumn sunshine. The instructors arrived promptly and on good form, by bike, having hardly broken sweat from their 75mile round trip to be with us!All the pupils were keen to get straight on the bikes and begin the fun, but the initial and very necessary lesson was in checking your bike over for safety or giving it an ‘M – check’.

With all the bikes tuned, tweaked and safely cleared for use it was time to begin. The initial session practiced the basic skills on the bottom court. There were several exciting games, of which bicycle jousting was not quite as dangerous as it sounded. Then it was time to hit the road and the pupils progressed quickly to testing their skills in several real life situations. Pupils returned to school for a satisfying lunch, which was voted the best school dinner the examiners had ever eaten.

The afternoon session was more road work and the opportunity to work off the roast lunch.

Disappointingly the final test is no longer overseen by a member of the local constabulary, for those of us that remember that scrutiny.Well done to Hugo R, Henry L, Joe W, Elliot W and Emma H for passing both Level 1 and 2. Particular praise must go to Emma who was rated very highly by the examiners.

We are running this course again next Sunday 14th November and it is open to all pupils from Year 5 and above, as well as any adults who would like to take part! We extend our thanks to Pedal Ready of Sheffield and look forward to their return next week.
