This Sunday was a chance to "bed in", so after just three days of school most boarders remained on site to re-familiarise themselves with this wonderful place! A first class full English breakfast had to be worked off so the boys and girls got stuck into their day with great enthusiasm from the start.....
Yes, as always they were busy - feet didn't hit the ground and from first thing in the morning until heads hit pillows at night - the action was non-stop! The first VII rugby squad were first to get outside in the crisp morning air and ran through some key drills in preparation for tournaments this term. They did well, James C shone but so did George M and many others. This is certainly a team with potential and they trained well. Worth noting that in the training games "Lincolnshire" beat "Derby"!
Equally keen were the girls' netball squad who were out receiving international standard coaching from Mrs Northcott.
The sports hall was also in lots of use - with soccer going on thruoght the morning and afternoon.
Others chose to watch a film, play board games and play pool. Lunch was definately a family affair as the Berry, Northcott and Mace families decended into the dinning room armed with high chairs. Top prize goes to Ellie W who played with one year old Donald and made him giggle throughout lunch!
The afternoon saw the Slieve Mor girls out with the Berry family to a ten-pin bowling centre.Three teams were formed and hard fought competition began. Top scorer of the afternoon was Charlotte with 101 narrowly knocking Mairi into 2nd place with 100. The team competition was carried by Emma, Bella, Immy, Cesily and Emily (and not forgetting Mr Berry) with 557. Special mention must go to Izzy, Emma, Sarah and Eliza who all produced a stike! A tremendous afternoon was rounded off with slush puppies.
Back at base the boys had been clamouring for "wide games" out on the fields and five-a-side football so that is what they got - they were exhausted after two hours of racing around!
Others cooked, swam and did art and craft work.
The evening informal concert was magnificent and the audience were struck by the precision and sensitivity of Jake P, Lucy E and Isobel E's playing. The skill was quite outstanding and the audience was left feeling sure that music scholarships are within reach for these budding musicians. This performance was quickly followed up by a very moving service by Mrs Lings who spoke of the importance of the lessons Jesus has taught and how relevant these lessons are today.
Parents were then treated to drinks and the pupils wolfed down their well earned supper. Then it was back to houses to crash out in eager anticipation of the first full week of term.
Marvellous!
