This weekend was always going to be a buzzy one! On Saturday night the 5th Year boys had their usual pot noodle treat and watched "21" in the Hargreaves Hall. The girls snuggled up in their houses and got a well deserved rest in front of the telly and time to chill with their pals. Sunday morning saw everybody tucking into a full English breakfast before a fantastic service delivered by the Headmaster of Giggleswick, Mr Boult. He spoke about the need for us to support one another and was very well received. The hymns were bashed out in typical S. Anselm's fashion too!
A wide variety of activities were laid on for the pupils and it is safe to say that everybody could try something that they really enjoyed. Some of the boys just relaxed back at base and played with meccano before playing touch rugby on the back field.
The girls went to Chatsworth and had great fun in the farmyard and gardens before indulging in some cake and refreshments. Hannah's birthday was also celebrated with gusto!
Two mixed U11 hockey teams went to Belper where they played with great skill and success to come second and third out of nine teams at the tournament.
Others stayed at home and were wowed by a rock band who had come to give a workshop. The pupils were wildly impressed with the great musical skills of the band and also the huge noise they were able to make. Great ideas were shared and Mr Eaton is now convinced that the next Jimmy Page may well be at S. Anselm's!
Some of the more adventurous boys went out on the High Peak at Black Rock where they conquered some fears as they abseiled, climbed and rock scrambled overlooking Matlock and Crompton. The views were astonishing and the boys really proved they had nerves of steel!
This was a cracking weekend in which everybody was able to a bit of what they liked and get a well deserved bit of down time. It was busy but fun and the pupils had time to relax.
Oh yes, we were also delighted to welcome well over twenty trial boarders who have settled in very quickly and seem very happy indeed. It is just a shame that half term comes next week to interupt all the fun!
