Thank goodness we chose to celebrate Chinese New Year this week and so fueled up with noodles......There has just been so much to do this weekend! The weekend started off with some exciting football matches against Ranby. Furthermore, Mrs Northcott was delighted to welcome well over thirty five girls to attend her free netball coaching sessions at S. Anselm's. The former international put the girls through their paces and was delighted with their response. Mrs Northcott added: “There are some really talented girls here today and I’m hoping I can give them the benefit of my experience to make them even better players.” The sessions continue next week and throughout March on Saturday mornings.

Later that day, Mrs Brailich and Mrs Northcott umpired a feisty netball match between the mothers and daughters. Competition between the generations was fierce as they battled for control of the ball. The mothers played well, shooting with accuracy and moving with agility and ease. Sadly, they came second to a very polished unit but the girls were all smiles at the end and the mums had definitely proven that they've still got it! The Junior House house matches were played in a highly competitive state: in a close competition Nelsons came out on top narrowly pipping Pitts. Wellingtons were in third place.

That night the boys and girls hunkered down with hot coco and biscuits snuggling up in their duvets watching movies and generally "crashing out" as they would say!

Good job they did, because after a big beefy breakfast they were exposed to an inspirational chemistry lesson from Mr Charlie Bostock, Registrar at Uppingham. The man managed to float an egg and extract ice cubes out of water using the slimmest of threads. Using full audience participation, he proved that he was worth his salt and that the pupils were too!

Having refueled with a giant lunch the boys and girls wrapped up warm and gathered with family and friends (and dogs) before embarking on an epic adventure through marsh, swamp and mud armed with mars bar and bottles of water!

An army of over ninety men women and children marched along the Wye to Haddon Hall through ground not too disimilar to the battlefields at the Somme!

Many a boot was nearly lost and Charlie L and Charlie A's mud cakes were a sight to behold. Thankfully, we rose out of the mire and headed up to Lathkill Dale and the Lathkill Hotel to complete a six mile journey to raise money for The Healing Foundation. This is a charity committed to improving research into treatments for people with physical disfigurements.

Much fun was had, with games of tag, hide and seek helping the kids let off steam on the way. The effort was magnificent and we must thank the masses of parents who came and the huge effort everyone put in. The staff were magnificent too.

The support from parents just shows what a warm and close community we have at the school. If pupils and parents could leave any money raised with Sarah Smilie and/or Richard Mace then we will publicise the amount raised at the end of term on the website and in the newsletter. Thanks again for all your support for this venture.
As the kids returned they were treated to hot chocolate and a biscuit. While most crashed in front of a film, others went swimming! What are we feeding them here???!!! Finally, they crashed out and were snoring in their beds ready for more excitements to come!

Well done - yet another cracking weekend full of great effort and achievement as well as laughter and fun! Roll on next Sunday.......
