Boarding is a central part of life at S. Anselm’s and offers children outstanding pastoral care, exceptional facilities and an unsurpassable range of activities set against the beautiful back-drop of the Peak District National Park. A large team of warm and highly motivated boarding staff ensures that every child receives the very best care possible. Weekends and evenings are packed with a huge range of trips and activities. Anything from abseiling, to cookery, to walks across the surrounding countryside is on offer. Trips to watch sports matches and outward bounds excursions are coupled with trips to the theatre, to the Chatsworth fairs and more.

In the evenings, the children play parlour games and board games; they are read to and listen to audio tapes or watch television. They have use of the Sports Hall, swimming pool and play pool and table football in the pupils’ Common Room. There is a boarders’ debating club and chess club and a chance to do some star gazing through the school telescope. Occasions such as Halloween, Christmas and Burns Night are also celebrated with gusto and are seen as an opportunity for the boarders to let their hair down.

Although this is a full boarding school, parents are very much involved in their children’s experience. There are long exeat weekends every three weeks and parents are encouraged to attend matches on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Boarders attend an evening service in Bakewell Parish church every Sunday to which parents and indeed our day families are warmly welcome. Parents are also invited to supper afterwards. Parents are welcome to take their children out to tea or lunch with friends when there is a special family occasion. We are offering those junior boarders wanting to board but who are still a little hesitant, the chance to weekly board, as a means of breaking them in gently. All details are available from the Headmaster's secretary.

Boarding at S. Anselm’s is a fabulous experience and gives children a childhood that is rich in opportunities, friendships and excitement. The children learn precious skills that will serve them throughout their lives and they leave as well rounded individuals who are well prepared for life beyond the school. Put quite simply, boarding life at S. Anselm’s rivals that offered at any boarding school in the country.
