Chatsworth Nativity 2011

Chatsworth Nativity 2011

Our hearts sank on Monday morning as we looked out of the window to see a thin covering of snow across the ground. What would it be like for the rest of the week; would we have to cancel our annual nativity outing to Chatsworth again? With lots of fingers crossed and ears glued to the weather forecast we decided to go for it. An excited Pre Prep wrapped themselves up in warm winter coats, hats and gloves to face the elements that Chatsworth was to throw at them. We arrived in a hail storm and howling gale but being the feisty lot that we are trudged on up the hill and into the farmyard. We split into groups and set off. Y2 went off to change into appropriate Nativity costumes and fetched animals from stables in preparation for the story they were going to take part in. Y1 and Reception found their way to an inn in Nazareth and waited with baited breath for the great unfurling of the birth of Jesus. They too had their part, dressed as sheep, cows, kings and angels.

Just then Mary (Verity) and Joseph (Henry H) entered the barn leading a donkey and a very kind innkeeper offered them his stable. The rest we know – but in this story we all took part and all ended up in the stable singing, mooing, bleating and playing an assortment of bells and maracas.

It was fine sight and sound! After that it was a quick picnic lunch and a play in the adventure playground before heading off to the craft tent to make cards and antlers. The children were a delight to take and a credit to S.Anselms. And as for the weather... it held off!
