Singing is a particular strength at S. Anselm’s, with all children encouraged to sing within class lessons and in twice-weekly assemblies.
In addition, the school currently has two choirs:
The Junior Choir is a non-auditioned choir for children in Transition and 1st - 3rd year (NC years 3-6). They perform at the school’s carol service, and gave a concert at St Phillip’s Cathedral in Birmingham in the Summer Term 2009. In July 2010, they are due to perform in a lunchtime recital in Derby Cathedral.
The Chapel Choir is an auditioned choir of all ages. The Chapel Choir lead the singing at all of the important musical events in the school’s calendar, including Harvest Festival and the Carol Service. On Advent Sunday, the Chapel Choir join forces with the choir of St Oswald’s, Ashbourne for their evening Advent Carol Service, and every summer, the Chapel Choir give a Summer Recital in a venue within the local area. 2008’s concert took place in Parwich Parish Church. In the Summer of 2009, the choir sang at Hallam Methodist Church. In March 2009, the Chapel Choir embarked upon a week-long tour to Austria. This year's projects have included a 'Come and Sing' A celebration of English music on Sunday 8 November in Bakewell Church, Evensong in York Minster on 23 February and a charity concert in aid of the Helen's Trust with Alfreton Male Voice Choir. The choir have just been on a tour to Hereford, where they sang Choral Evensong in the Cathedral and did a joint concert with pupils from Hereford Cathedral School (see Hereford Tour).
