I thought it useful to give you a flavour of what is happening up here on the hill in Bakewell.
The snow is pretty thick here….. in places knee height for me (and that is twice Mr Watt’s knee height!)

Stanedge Road is also very covered, and even the back route is deep. Clearance and depth of snow is the real issue today, with it being over a foot deep on the back route into school, and deeper where it has drifted.

Last night it was all about the “Blitz Experience”. Mrs Northcott, Mrs Thomson and the Gap students cooked supper, and the Yr 8 boys helped with the washing up. It was a super atmosphere and great fun, with lashings of pizza and pasta after a hard day in the snow.

Meanwhile…. Normal lessons continued for boarders and those day children who could get in.

We have also had a lot of snow fun earlier on in the day while we waited for staff and pupils to make it in (only 7 pupils made it in today). Many thanks to the owners of the Red Lion in Bakewell, who own the “tobogganing field” and who have let us use it during the snow.

The forecast is not good. We are expecting more snow today albeit light snow, but temperatures are never going to get above minus 3° C. Over the next few days there is more snow on the way although it should calm down at the weekend. However temperatures will never really get above freezing, so this snow is here to stay.
