England Junior Chess Selector to coach at S.Anselm's

The President of the Nottinghamshire Chess Assocation, David Levens, is going to be coaching chess at S.Anselm's on a Monday afternoon this term.

David, an England Junior Chess selector, author of chess books and individual coach to a number of England players, visited S.Anselm's for the first time today and spent an hour with our team before their comprehensive 6-0 Staffordshire / Derbyshire league victory against St. Wulstan's, a team we also beat in a friendly 18.5-5.5 last term.

David said "In just the short time I've spent here this afternoon, it's obvious you have a lot of well taught, well behaved and enthusiastic chess players at S.Anselm's."

Mr. Franklin, who has taken the chess at S.Anselm's on his own for the last 50 terms and has only met Mr. Levens before in opposition through David's superb coaching at Nottingham H.S. (taking them to be the best school nationally at chess in the country) said "It's rather like the England cricket team employing Shane Warne to beat the Aussies next summer: to have David on our side (instead of the opposition!) will give our children a tremendous boost, he'll make such a telling contribution in the weeks to come."

With the chess season in full swing, league matches, junior friendlies and matches against senior schools like Mount St.Mary's and Leeds Grammar School to come, plus our Easter holiday chess trip to the IAPS tournament in Surrey, there's no better time to have someone with such experience joining the peripatetic staff at S.Anselm's.
