Exploring Culture Visits the Old House Museum

The Exploring Culture group visited the Old House Museum in Bakewell on Thursday. This Tudor house was saved from demolition and has been preserved complete with outside Victorian privy (of great interest to our pupils!). The group followed the museum’s ‘rat trail’, looking for a rat (home-made fluffy variety) in each room. A family of Victorian mill workers lived in the house with their seven children – the laundry room is another area of fascination in these days of automatic washing machines. As can be imagined, our pupils all much enjoyed the chance to dress up in Tudor costume!
