EXTRAS FOR AUTUMN 2011
As you will no doubt be aware, the school timetable has undergone many changes over the summer and is now working along slightly amended lines, including when and how Extras are taking place. Reasons for these changes are innumerable, but at the heart of it all is that our pupils can achieve even more during the academic part of their school lives whilst still finding the time to enjoy themselves through the Extras and activities that are being put on offer.
Extras, as an official curriculum time slot, will only be happening on a Thursday afternoon but this time has been extended to allow pupils to participate in the same wide ranging activities the school has been proud to offer over the last few years. Other Extras will run on different days during some of the new additional break times that have been created as a result of the new timetable, and all of these are clearly stated within this information pack. The extended slot also has advantages, in that Extras that have previously struggled to fit into their allocated time can now run for longer periods so pupils can enjoy their time even more. Activities such as Horse Riding, Mountain biking, Film Club, Tennis Academy & Mini Tennis and Middle Boys Exploring will now run for the full period of Extras on a Thursday and pupils will be able to sign up for these for the full afternoon session.
The new timings will run as follows:
Session A: 1.50pm – 2.50pm followed by a break of 30 minutes
Session B: 3.20 – 4.20pm followed by Reading Period straight after.
The Extended Extras will run from 1.50 through to 4.20, but often some of this time will be spent travelling to and fro between external venues.
The new programme is uploaded in the Extras section and you should be receiving a much more detailed Extras pack and returns sheet over the next few days via email.
I look forward to seeing everyone again in the new term,
Kind regards,
Dan Eaton (Extras Coordinator)
