Our dining room is at the heart of the school. Each of the four houses has their own trophy cabinets on display and the hall is decorated with each passing season.
With all the energy they expend every day, our pupils need the right fuel in the right quantities to help them give their best throughout the day.
The kitchen staff make huge efforts to ensure celebrations are marked, preparing pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, Chinese menus for Chinese New Year and, of course, plenty of cakes for birthdays and the victorious house point winners at every exeat.
Our children are proud of the delicious match teas we offer opposing schools and appreciate not only the meals but also the tasty snacks and packed lunches prepared by our dedicated team.
The menus run in a four weekly rota so the children have a wide variety of food to try. All our meat is sourced locally and a large proportion of it is organic while we have regular deliveries of fresh food and fish ensuring a seasonal intake. All the dishes on the menus are made on site.
Breakfast for the boarders is seen as a vital start to the day with a wide variety of cold and cooked options on offer. The children can have cereal, toast, cold milk or tea to drink plus a variety of hot daily choices. The “full English” breakfast on a Sunday is a very popular school tradition as is the traditional Sunday Roast at 6pm when families are welcome to join staff and children. This is often the opportunity for a lively and engaging impromptu performance from the children.
We believe in family-style dining. At lunch and supper a member of staff sits with the children, encouraging manners, conversation and a relaxed atmosphere. The children are encouraged to “try everything” in the junior years, expanding their experiences and, as they head towards the senior years they are allowed to visit the varied salad bar more regularly.
