It has been another exciting day during National School Food Week. It is Day four and the children and staff are enjoying the themes running throughout the week.

Thursday has involved lunchtime voting. Today, the children experienced Sausage and bean Casserole with mashed potato, carrots, broccoli and peas. For dessert it was a real treat, this included treacle tart and whipped cream.
The activities that have taken place today have been educational and fun. The junior forms have been involved in food art and guess the vegetable. The children had ten minutes to design something inspirational, please do pop into the main entrance to have a look at the creations, we do have quite a few masterpieces! Many congratulations to George L, Max H, Tilly S, Hugo A, Lily W, Imo C, Yasmin D, Monty H, Gabriella N and Amber Harcus who will be receiving National School Meals Week Certificates for their creations. Hugo A was the overall winner. Well done to all the children for their magnificent artwork.

Alongside the junior form activities, the senior forms, year 7 and 8 took part in supermarket sweep in the sportshall. Sainsbury’s very kindly let us use their shopping trollies and each tutor group were set a task. The tutor group food reps had to lead their groups to go to the Northcott supermarket with their shopping trolleys ( set up in the sportshall), pick up a food type ( eg a banana) and relate the food type to the food pyramid under key headings such as protein, dairy, vegetables, fruit etc. When the pyramid was completed the tutor group then had to create a daily menu using their essential information and the food items from the supermarket. It was excellent to see the children understanding what important items we need in our daily consumption of food in order to remain healthy. It was a very exciting and worthwhile exercise to promote essential components of our diet.

To tea, the children enjoyed crumpets and cheese scones, once again voting took place with fantastic suggestions from pupils. Congratulations to Toby P who received a NSMW I am a star badge for tasting meals with sauces of which he does not usually like. Super!
Our final day looms and the children have tastings once again during Friday breaktime and voting at Lunchtime and afternoon tea. The children are already asking what tastings are that will be taking place on our final day………..Little ones, You are going to have to wait and see! I don’t think you will be disappointed! Many thanks, Michelle Northcott.
