Gold medal performances from S. Anselm’s athletes at Mount St Mary’s Athletics Championships!

S. Anselm’s went to the Mount St Mary’s U13 Prep School Athletics Championships on Saturday 26th June 2010. The schools involved were ourselves, Barlborough Hall and Mt St Mary’s, Lincoln Minster, St Olaves, St Peter and St Paul and Wellow House. S. Anselm’s took an U12 side to the event even though it was an U13 age group competition, so they certainly had to work very hard – of which they did with finesse!

Highlights of the day included:-
• Nancy S, Georgia D, Paddy D flying through their 100m heats and reaching the 100m finals.
• Eleanor T and Nancy S both finishing 3rd in their 200m heats and both reaching the 200m final.
• Chloe R-S, Lily S, Kevin H, Alex V, Hannah S, Paddy D and Jack H all running the 800m and 1500m, of which dedicated athletes ran both the 800m and 1500m minutes apart – well done!
• Freddie H competed brilliantly finishing with a silver medal in the High Jump narrowly missing out on a gold medal position jumping 1 m 35, another personal best. Paddy D also narrowly missed out on a bronze medal jumping 4m 20 in the Long Jump. He finished 3rd but due to another boy jumping the same distance and having a better count back on jumps, Paddy unfortunately missed out on receiving a bronze medal.
• Our throwers were all superstars. Harriet R, Lucy R ( a very close 4th position in the shot), John W, Charlie H, Emma H, Olivia C, Ben E and Edward H all managing excellent results in the Shot, Javelin and discus events. A Gold medal went to Edward H throwing 22m85 in the javelin, bronze medals for Olivia C in the javelin ( 16m40) and shot (6m67).

• At the end of the day the U12 girls 4X100m relay team finished with a super bronze medal position.
• Other top athlete performances must be mentioned: Will H in the Long jump gaining 3m 70 and in the high jump 1m 25; Charlie H in the discus gained 15m 45, 4th position; Ollie G improving his personal best time in the 100m and also running a fine leg on the 4X100m relay. Jack M-M running in the 200m gaining 4th position in his heat. Emma S jumping well in the High jump and scoring crucial points to the final team score.

The S. Anselm’s base camp was shouting and jumping for joy! Not only had it been an great day to see the athletes competing but also the boys and girls all supporting each other in their events on and off the track. It was a privilege to take girls and boys from S. Anselm’s showing fine performances, exceptional behaviour and lots of encouragement for fellow team members. Mrs Northcott and Mr Mace were overwhelmed with the excitement and overall performances from the whole team. Many congratulations to all competitors and thank you for a great day! Once again, many thanks to our parents for their support. MPN
