In many ways this is one of the busiest days in our school calendar. With every child out and about playing house sport or games they are fully occupied. I always wish that the passion of inter house matches could be replicated on a week in week out basis for normal matches. It was fantastic to see so many normally unsung heroes raising their game and making really positive contributions to their house sport. It was great to see.

The girls senior inter house competition ended up as:
1st Nelsons
2nd Pitts
3rd Wellingtons
4th Churchills
But it was a very close thing with goal difference separating the positions for 1st and 2nd and 3rd and 4th.

In the rugby there was some ferocious tackling and aggressive running that impressed many and also made a few mothers shudder. Results here were:
Seniors
1st Churchills
2nd Pitts
3rd Wellingtons
4th Nelsons

Juniors
1st Pitts
2nd Churchills
3rd Wellingtons
4th Nelsons

After that it was into the Christmas Fayre. This year there was an impressive selection of stalls and there was a really healthy crowd there getting a number of their Christmas presents out of the way early. We were delighted to be raising money for Sheffield Children’s Hospital and we were lucky to have Theo the Bear at school to help the fund raising. Many many thanks to the social committee who worked tirelessly through the day to set it all up and then take it down again.

(I hope you get a sense of the energy and activity) As the Christmas Fayre started to wind down the centre of attention switched outside as the bonfire was lit. I had mixed emotions about this, this year. The Prefects had decided to burn an effigy of myself on top of the bonfire which questioned my original selection of Prefects. On the plus side however, they had chosen a good photo of me to put on my head, and they had given me a tiny waist and a six pack – so it can’t be all bad!

As the bonfire was lit so the catering team came into their own. Not only had they been keeping the assembled crowds warm with tea and coffee and sandwiches all day but now they launched into the piece de resistance, the B B Q. Locally produced (and really good) sausages and burgers were munched up by everyone to satisfied nods of approval. Barely had everyone had a chance to start digesting this than the fireworks started. This was a really impressive display this year and there were lots of accompanying oooo’s and arrgh’s.

Finally, the crowds assembled around the camp fire for some good old fashioned songs. Inter house rivalry continued as each house tried to out-sing the others and it was a great atmosphere.

A huge thank you to all my staff who did a great job either behind the scenes or in front of house. It is a busy day for the school, but it was a super day and evening, and everyone seemed to have a ball!
