IAPS National Swimming Finals 2009

Charlotte P U13 50 m Breastroke

On Saturday 16th May 2009, Charlotte P swam at the K2 national Swimming centre in Crawley at the National IAPS Swimming Championships. She was selected from the Regional IAPS in Nottingham after a fantastic swim which placed her in the top 16 in the country. She had already done fantastically well winning the Regional and she was certainly a true role model for S.Anselm’s.
Charlotte, Mrs Northcott, and Mr and Mrs Perkins all arrived at the Swimming Arena to witness hundreds of National swimmers in an Olympic 50m pool and Charlotte was to be one of them! The setting was spectacular – even Mrs Northcott started to get butterflies in her stomach! When it was time for Charlottes warm up – it was very different from previous competitions, all 8 lanes were used and there were sprint lanes and slow warm up lanes for all age group competitors. Charlotte was very nervous but certainly looked like she was ready. Her race was called up and she progressed over to the blocks. She was in lane 3, next to the fastest girl who qualified in lane 4. The buzzer went off and unfortunately Charlotte slipped on her block, however, she was certainly determined to catch the swimmers of which she did. As she was approaching the end of her first 25 metres, she was looking strong and confident and her second 25m went just as well. She finished a fine 4th in her heat with one swimmer being disqualified. All she had to do was wait and see if she had made the final 8 for the grand final. After both races, the results highlighted that overall Charlotte finished in overall 10th position out of 16 finalists with a time of 44.31 secs and just narrowly missed out on a final position by 0.7secs. However, we are so proud of Charlotte for not only making the National finals but also for finishing 10th best IAPS U13 breastroke swimmer for her age group in the country. It was such a wonderful experience for Charlotte and we very much hope for more S.Anselm’s swimmers through to the National Finals next year! I would like to say a huge thank you to Mr and Mrs Perkins for all their support over the weekend – It has been a super weekend for all of us! Mrs Northcott.
