IAPS Midlands/North Regional Tournament, held at Repton School
Hopes were high after a good result against Denstone two days before. However, this all fell apart after 2 minutes of the first match against Foremarke Hall. A silly defensive error saw Foremarke take the lead, quickly a second goal followed. Heads soon dropped and the only player who could come out of the match with any credit was once again George M , he made a string of fine saves as S. Anselm's were overrun conceding two further goals for the final score to be a 4-0 loss and but for George M's heroics it would have been a lot more. The boys were determined to recover from this setback against Beachborough but within a minute were a goal down , S. Anselm's created a string of chances with Jordan W, Tom B, James C, John B & William S all spurning goal scoring chances. Eventually after 10 minutes Jordan W scored a fine equalizer. But we were not able to find the winning goal with a hatful of goal scoring opportunities all missed. A game that S. Anselm's should have won comfortably had passed us by and a 1-1 draw was recorded. Then onto our final group match against Bromsgrove which saw a very poor performance by all of the team members, again early goals were conceded heads went down and bickering between the team began a 7-1 loss ensued with Jordan W scoring a consolation goal on the final whistle. All in all a very disappointing day for both players and coach, when everyone knows with the usual S. Anselm's fighting spirit so much more could have been achieved.
