The department is currently thriving with two-thirds of pupils in the school taking advantage of the wide-range of instrumental tuition offered.
Instruments currently on offer for tuition are:
cello, clarinet, double bass, drumkit, euphonium, flute, French horn, guitar (acoustic, bass and electric), harp, oboe, piano, recorder, saxophone, singing, trombone, trumpet, tuba, viola, and violin.
The peripatetic team, currently 12-strong, work hard to inspire the children, with incredible success. During the course of last year, many of our children - of all ages - sat ABRSM Music exams, ranging from Prep Test piano to grade 5 violin.
Some of our more advanced instrumentalists gain music scholarships to some of the country’s leading Senior Schools. In 2008-9, three fine year 8 musicians – Isobel E, Jake P and Lucy E gained scholarships to Malvern, Oundle and Repton.
In 2009-10, Nancy J was awarded a Music Exhibition to Malvern College.

Since instrumental lessons are generally 40 mins, against academic lessons of 30 mins or 1 hour, many of the lessons cut across two lessons. These are listed in the 2 subject columns on the timetable. Please do get in touch if you are not sure who your child's instrument teacher is. Of course, there are often reasons why one-off swaps have to occur. These will not be notified on the website.
