Player of the match – Georgie H for excellent accurate throws from the deep, well taken catches and superb batting.

A super 1st round JET result for the under 13 girls, and extrememly pleasing considering we have had one games session to form the team. Having won the toss, we opted to field first and Wolverhampton G.S. – a huge school with 60+ girls to pick from, dug in for the duration. They took few risks, but also found it hard to connect with Nancy’s fast balls. After some super catches from Georgie H, Emily, Fleur, Millie and Nancy; and good stumping by Poppy at 2nd, we had whittled them down; but it took a further 10 balls to finish them off completely. Deeps Freya, Georgie H and Millie played a blinder, keeping it tight, but we did drop some catches in this innings and need to take the ball into the body more.

Our batting innings started brilliantly, with 3½ rounders off the first four balls! We really tested their deeps and put the fielders under pressure, forcing errors from them panicking and capitalising on them. Our final 3 batters, Nancy, Georgie H and Poppy kept chipping away, adding halves and occasional wholes to ensure we kept on adding to the scoring tally.

In the second innings, we were very quick to get the first six batters out, did not drop a single catch all innings and were really on fire. Georgia RS had a stormer, directing the field of play impressively and covering 4th post, as well as her backstop position. Teamed with Georgie H’s super, long and accurate throws, many batters, certain they were on for a whole rounder came unstuck, being stumped out at 4th. We went in to bat with confidence and skill, needing 4½ rounders to win. This was achieved by the time our girls had all batted twice. We agreed to continue for another 20 good balls and then declare. We finished after the agreed 20 and still had 5 of our batters remaining, but felt this was the most sporting thing to do.

Well played everybody, a fabulous 1st result, round 2 here we come! Thanks to Derek Brock for kindly driving and Mrs GP for supporting.
