This week our Head Boy and Head Girls have been off to see a citizenship ceremony in Sheffield. This is their account of the day:
CITIZENSHIP CEREMONY
We had a fantastic time at Sheffield City Hall. When we arrived at City Hall we first visited the council room, where we saw all the photographs of the old mayors. We then went to the room where the people that had signed up, would become British Citizens.
We talked to many people both before and after the ceremony. After they said the oath of allegiance, the candidates received a certificate and a pack including details of how to get a passport. We spoke to many people that we now very happy that they were leaving as a British Citizen. Everyone had a smile on their face and several people came up to talk to us about how long they have lived in England and why they wanted to be a British Citizen.
We had a super day and it was very interesting to see how people across the world become a British Citizen. We had people from Nigeria, America, Siberia and India, but it is said that the week before there were people becoming British Citizens from over 83 different places.
We would like to say a big thank you to Mr and Mrs Rae who took both of us to Sheffield City Hall and also to Mrs Rae for hosting the event as she is the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Sheffield.
