All pupils at S. Anselm’s receive two lessons of timetable music each week. In the lower years: Transition to 3rd year (NC years 3 – 6), one of these lessons is in their individual class. This lesson is used chiefly to cover the more theoretical and knowledge-based work of the curriculum. The other lessons is with the entire year-group, and is chiefly used for performance, and especially singing.
In the top two year-groups, 4th and 5th year (NC years 7 – 8), both lessons are with their individual class.
Work studied covers all elements of music – composition, listening and appraising, performance, as well as music theory and musical knowledge.
There is extensive use of ICT in the music curriculum, utilising the interactive whiteboard and programmes such as Sibelius and the standard Microsoft applications.
All music lessons take place in the purpose-built Music Department building in a large 1st floor classroom.
