Netball Outing

ENGLAND V NEW ZEALAND NETBALL INTERNATIONAL, MONDAY 17TH JANUARY.

What an exciting way to spend a Monday evening! All of the girls in years 6, 7, & 8 were given the opportunity to watch a game of top class netball, literally on their own doorstep, when the 2nd match of the England versus New Zealand Test Series came to the Nottingham Trent Arena. Opportunities to see such high class netball don’t come along very often and the occasion certainly lived up to its billing. Despite getting off to a slow start, England began to pick up their game in the second quarter and continued to keep themselves in the match, leading to an exciting and nail biting final quarter, with them just being pipped 39 – 41 at the final whistle.

Our school party consisted of 45 girls from the top three year groups and six female games staff. The girls were extremely excited during the journey to the match and we were treated to some super singing. Once inside the arena they were quick to suss out the range of memorabilia and souvenirs on offer, and ensured they were suitably equipped for the game, with gigantic foam hands, horns, mini netballs, England banners, hats and fans. The atmosphere was electric, with the crowd applauding and cheering every time each of England’s 39 goals were scored. In between quarters there were dancing and cheering competitions amongst the crowd and Mexican waves. After the game finished we enjoyed a big S. Anselm’s party photo session, before being given an opportunity to collect the autographs of some of the England Squad. Our journey home saw us arriving punctually, five minutes before the allocated collection time.

All in all a fabulous time was had by everyone, with the girls really enjoying the game and buzzing with excitement and enthusiasm all the way home. Thank you to Mr Callun for assisting me with the organisation of the trip, and Mrs Northcott, Mrs Young, Mrs Elvin, Mrs Whawell and Miss Skipp for accompanying us and assisting on the night. Finally thank you to the girls themselves; who behaved impeccably for the entire time, were excellent company, and super ambassadors for their school; and who made tonight’s trip so memorable. One test series left . . . COME ON ENGLAND!!!
