Captain G-P was ready for action after her second breakfast of the day at S.Anselm's! The team swiftly put their team kit on and were very excited about their day ahead of them. After lots of singing on the coach, the S. Anselm's team arrived at Oakham ready for a super day of netball.
The team had a tough section but they warmed up well and were motivated and focussed for their first match V Witham Hall. After the first 3minutes of the match, S. Anselm's took control of the game and went 3 - 0 up. This gave the team a huge boost and they went from strength to strength. Teya S, Arabella H and Jessica R-S sent good hard accurate passes into Gabriella T to finish off the super play with accurate shots on goal. The team continued to drive hard onto the ball, however when Witham Hall had possession of the ball, Georgina H, Oognah S and Annie G-P put so much pressure on the passing that they forced Witham to make mistakes and once again gain control of the game. S. Anselm's played superbly and it was a great start to the day. The final score was 14 - 1 to S. Anselm's.
The next 2 games went very smoothly and once again S. Anselm's linked the ball down the court into GS Gabriella to convert the shots on goal. As time progressed, S. Anselm's were more motivated. Super passing, tight man to man marking and excellent shooting. S. Anselm's won their next 2 matches and only had one more match to go until the next round.
The final match was against Fairfield. It was a very tight match and Fairfield who play 2 terms of netball were an extremely well drilled side. At half time the score was 3 - 1 to S. Anselm's. However, after a firm and positive half time talk, the U10 side were ready to fight for their place in the cup semi final. Gabriella and Arabella continued to attack the ball well and shoot accurately, whilst Georgina H, Annie G-P and Oognah S defending well with tight man to man marking. Jessica R-S and Teya also provided so many opportunities in the centre court to allow S. Anselm's to extend their lead. Final score was 8 - 4 to S. Anselm's.
S. Anselm's finished in 1st position in their section and they therefore faced 1st position in another section.
In the Semi final of the cup competition, S. Anselm's met Spratton Hall. Due to the fact that our original section was very strong, S. Anselm's were feeling motivated and confident in their own play. Overall S. Anselm's dominated the match particularly in the second half and managed to win a confident 8 - 1 in the semi final which booked their place in the overall cup final. What a fantastic experience!
With the U10 chief supporters ( our super parents) on the sidelines and an enthusiastic warm up under our belts, S. Anselm's were ready to face Beeston Hall in the final. Overall the first half was very close, this was due to the occasion getting the better of the S. Anselm's side. The half time score was 3 - 1 to S. Anselm's. However, after another key team talk at half time, the S. Anselm's players were ready to impress their parents with outstanding performances, of which they did not disappoint. The overall final score was 7 - 1 to S. Anselm's. Huge cheers and smiles for the parents, players, team coach and Mr Northcott! Mrs Northcott was very proud of the team for their efforts throughout the whole day. In particular the whole squad effort with super support and encouragement from Poppy A who motivated her team throughout the whole day. The fantastic day ended with medals, the winner's trophy being presented and an exceptional speech from the U10 Captain Annie G - P. Well done to all players and a huge thank you to Gabriella T for her outstanding shots on goal, the whole team for their super netball and all the parents for their support and encouragement throughout the whole day. A memorable win - one to remember!
