Thursday 20th January 2011
Dear Parents
I am pleased to report that the children have got off to a flying start and have been working enthusiastically from the off set. Unfortunately a number of children have had a very nasty cough and cold, and some with headaches and high temperatures. We are hoping that this is on its way out but if your child does become unwell, we would be grateful if you could phone or email school before 9am to let us know that they won’t be attending.
Snowy Weather
If we have any more snow, (fingers crossed that we won’t!) please can all children bring a pair of wellington/snow boots to school and if possible, a pair of waterproof trousers or ski-suit. (If they don’t have a pair the children can wear their track-suit bottoms instead). At the end of a snowy day please can parents collect any wet clothing from school, dry it and return it the next day if possible.
Christmas Collection
After our Christmas concert we were collecting to raise money for Benta- a Kenyan girl, and thank everyone for their generous contributions. We were delighted with the amount raised, which totalled over £250. We will be renewing our support to Vision Aid next month.
Exeat
Please note that we finish on Thursday 20th January for an Exeat weekend. We return to school on Monday 24th January.
Book Fair
Next week we will be holding our annual book fair in the Pre-prep. This is a great way of raising commission to enable the department to purchase new books. Books will be available to purchase from 3.20pm- 4.10pm, on Monday 24th, Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th January. Children can only “purchase” books with their parent/guardian being present, or having sent a note to their child’s form teacher indicating how much they are allowed to spend. The book fair will be held in the Assembly Room and the cost of the books will be added to your child’s school bill.
On these days, After School Club will be held in either Miss Flack’s or Miss Aitken’s classroom. Music making extra will use the music block on Wednesday and Mrs Kinlen will bring the children back to the Pre-prep for parents to be able to collect them.
P.E.Kit
Quite a few children do not seem to have their complete PE/Games kit in school- many white socks are missing! We would be grateful if parents could check their child’s kit to ensure that everything is present. Please can parents also check if their child’s trainers still fit them and take home shoes that are too small, as our trainer boxes are rather over flowing!
Informal Concert
Mr Weller has organised an informal concert, in conjunction with the peripatetic music teachers on Tuesday 1st February. Many of the children who have individual music lessons will be playing at this event, and all parents are warmly welcome to attend. There will be an opportunity to speak to Mr Weller and his team after the event if you are interested in your child starting an instrument. We do however advise parents to wait until their child is coping well with learning to read and when they show a real interest in an instrument, as a good deal of regular practice is needed to make it worthwhile!
Year 1 Asssembly
The Year 1 children will be performing a short assembly on Tuesday 8th February at 8.55am. All parents are of course very welcome to attend the assembly, which will take place in Hargreaves Hall.
Sponsored Swim
This event will be taking place on Thursday 10th February, starting from 1.30pm. We will be sending out each year group’s swimming times closer to the event and encouraging parents to come and cheer their child on. This will be a great opportunity to see your child in action and hopefully help raise funds for the new adventure playground. Afterwards, refreshments will be served in the common room, above the swimming pool and there will be a cake & produce stall, as well as a nearly new stall. Parents are welcome to start dropping off contributions after exeat for us to sell on the stalls. Obviously fresh produce can be brought in either the day before the event, or on the day. Any volunteers to help with this event please speak to Martha Marriott or Katrina Mayson. Thank you in advance for your support.
Parent-teacher meetings
We will be holding our Parent-Teacher Meetings before half-term and a list of days and times will soon be placed outside each child’s classroom. Please select a convenient appointment time to see your child’s form teacher.
Kind regards,
Lisa Donnelly
