Pre Season Training

Pre Season Training

Wednesday saw a good turnout of Year 7 and 8s to the pre-season football training. Jerseys on and ready the boys and staff were looking forward to getting back onto the playing fields after a rather more relaxed and plentiful Christmas break. The cold and gusty weather welcomed us out of the changing room doors as we set off for a gentle warm up around the bottom and top pitches. After a good stretch the boys went straight into the triangle run, sprinting to the lines and jogging back.

The muscles were warm and it was time to get the ball at our feet, firstly we worked on some dribbling and turns before turning to grids to get our passing going. Making sure the passing channels were open, two at 90o was effective when trying to keep it away from a single defender and the boys picked it up quickly. As the afternoon progressed we started to evolve the drills creating three on ones with a small goal again using the 90o passing angles to work the ball before setting up five on two scenarios working the flanks. It was certainly a nice surprise when Mr Berry invited us down for hot chocolate in the pavilion before putting our skills into a game situation. With the wind blowing hard and cold sleet starting to come down it was pleasing to see some good passages of play. There is much to work on but it was an impressive start by the boys. Well done.
