The positive nature of the S.Anselm's community, enshrining as it does so many of the values of PSHCE, recognised the importance of this curriculum area, when it was nationally identified, and welcomed the opportunity to consider these areas of personal and social development as an integral part of an all-round education. Whilst we believe that the themes and values of PSHCE are addressed continually by every aspect of our life together, and within the content of many subjects, the distinct PSHE/Citizenship teaching is provided by:
- Pre-Prep: 1 weekly 20min PSHEC period and circle time within forms and the reward and sanction policy of the whole school
- Prep: Transition to 2nd year: 1 weekly PSHEC period of 35mins
- Prep: 3rd to 5th year: 1 x 20min plenary for each year group, in each 3-weekly session of term, followed yp by tutorial sessions.
- A programme of visiting speakers on PSHEC issues and themes.
- Charity fund-raising events and activities that involve us with the wider community of Bakewell, and the World including a pen-friend link that has been established with a school in Japan.
- The pastoral system, from form-tutors, houseparents, matrons, through groundstaff and kitchen staff, to senior and junior guides and prefects, all adding to a community in which good personal and social education takes place.
- The 5th Year leaver's program, which includes outward-bound and leadership activities, and speakers on Personal Safety and Illegal Drug Awareness.
Social, moral and cultural values are considered in every aspect of the school's curriculum and life.
