Reading Competition
We were all treated to a super evening of reading at S. Anselm’s last night. The whole school took part in the initial rounds and were slowly whittled down to the finalists that read tonight. We were enthralled by their enthusiasm for reading and the ability to deliver it so confidently in front of all the school and parents.
We were delighted to welcome Carolyn Miller (Head of English at Uppingham) to judge this competition, and it was very difficult to reach a verdict such was the diversity of reading and the level of performances.
In the Junior Competition the results were as follows:
Runner up: Nick P – for his reading of “The last Tommy Fighting” by Harry Patch
Winner: Natalie G – for her reading of “The Tiger and the Zebra” by Ken Nesbit
In the Senior Competition the results were as follows:
Runner up: Lily S – for her reading of “Boy at the Window” by Richard Wilbur
Joint Winners: Freya H – for her reading of “Private Peaceful” by Michael Morpurgo & Poppy Miller for her reading of “The Golden Boy” by Ted Hughes.
Well done to everyone who took part – it really was a celebration of reading, and special thanks to Ms Weatherley for her superb organisation and enthusiasm!
