On Friday we took the Reception children to visit the Vets in Bakewell. We were greeted by Maggie the head nurse who gave us a spectacular hands on tour of the practice. We met Bollie a yellow Labrador who was the perfect patient and sat quietly as we listened to her heart with a stethoscope. We were then shown the operating theatre where a teddy was under general anesthetic and Maggie showed us all the tools and equipment that would be needed to perform an operation. We were then plunged into darkness to get a feel of what it is like having to develop X rays in the X ray department. After this the children were allowed to dress up as vets and got a real impression of what it is like to be a vet. They applied bandages, administered medicines and vaccinations and had a ball. Thank you to Bakewell Vets we had such a good time.
