Remembrance Day Service

Remembrance Day Service

Like many communities around the country, S. Anselm’s came together for a Remembrance Day Service just before 11am. We prayed, sang and celebrated together. We were treated to Amelia playing the trumpet superbly, and Charlie read out his poem which won the Peace Medal this year. Despite the sombre feeling in the service his poem got a round of applause.

Armistice

In the fields where nothing grows
The dead men lay rotting:
The men that lived lay cowering,
Waiting for the call.

Which never came. No call.
No whistle. No attack.
All down the silent trenches
Men clambered out.

No guns were fired. No voices
Raised. You could see the blue sky.
And for the first time birds sang.
It was peace.

By Charlie Speed

Charles B (the youngest boy in the Prep School) laid the wreath.

Many thanks to Mrs Lings and Mr Eaton who led the service, and to the Prefect Team who led the prayers and read out the names of the fallen.
