Rockstars in the Making

The last day of the half term saw the current school rock band, 20%Perfect, take to the road and travel to the hugely impressive DCAS Studios in Chesterfield.  This state of the art facility has everything budding musicians could possibly dream of – and then some – and Amelia, Fred, Will & Bertie were put to work laying down tracks for three of their songs.  Along with guest vocalists for the day Elfie and Amelia M the group impressed staff with their abilities and commitment and really gave it their all over a six hour recording session.  The result is simply stunning but there will be a couple of weeks interval before the band go back for a final ‘mixdown’ session to choose the sound they want for the end product, and I’m afraid a slight wait is inevitable before the songs are available for public consumption!

A particular favourite for the vocalists was the vocal booth (christened the TARDIS by the children) which was in total isolation to the rest of the studio and once inside communication was only possible through microphones and headsets, such was the extent of the sound proofing!

The chance for pupils of this age to record through equipment worth tens of thousands does not come along regularly and it is much appreciated that Martyn and the staff gave us the opportunity and their time was much appreciated.  Many thanks must also go to my able assistant for the day Jacqui Blanchard who kept us all fed and watered throughout the entire session!
